SGV Monarchs Sweep Sentinels in Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League Championship

The Baseball Census Collegiate Summer League Championships were held at The University of La Verne’s Ben Hines Field. ULV was where the Monarchs played home games all summer, and they used the home field advantage in their favor to seal the deal in only two games.

Game 1 Recap – Monarchs 9 Sentinels 5

Monarchs topped the Arroyo Seco Sentinels 9-5 on Wednesday at Ben Hines Field.

The Monarchs jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored two runs, Nathan Moore induced Joaquin Salcedo to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Ivan Barragan singled, scoring one run.

Andrew Cuervo homered to right field, scoring three runs in the top of the second for the Sentinels 2025.

Mark Manuel singled down the right field line, which helped the Sentinels tie the game at four in the top of the third.

The Monarchs captured the lead, 6-4, in the bottom of the third after Daniel Moreno singled down the left field line, and Levi Altamirano singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Michael Rogozik started the game for the Monarchs. The ULV Hurler gave up eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Moore stepped on the mound first for the Sentinels. Moore gave up 11 hits and eight runs (five earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking three. Aiden Barcelo threw one and one-third innings of no-run ball for the Monarchs in relief. The Former Amat graduate allowed zero hits, striking out none and walking none.

The Monarchs amassed 13 hits in the game. Steven Mara drove the middle of the lineup, leading Monarchs with two RBI. The CSULA Outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. The HIU Standout, Ivan Barragan, led the Monarchs with three hits in three at bats. Nate Hellein and Xiovany Ochoa each collected multiple hits for the Monarchs.

The Sentinels tallied 10 hits in the game. Cuervo led the Sentinels with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The LA Valley First baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Leadoff hitter, Maranatha 2025 Graduate Matt Kurkdjian led the Sentinels with three hits in four at bats. Mark Manuel, The Lenior Rhyne Backstop, collected two hits for Sentinels 2025 in three at bats.

Game 2 Recap – Monarchs 5 Sentinels 4

The Monarchs topped the Sentinels 5-4 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four in the top of the ninth when Steven Mara hit a solo home run to left field.

The Sentinels got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Alex Laureano singled down the right field line, and the Sentinels scored on a wild pitch.

The Monarchs took the lead, 4-2, in the top of the sixth thanks to singles by Xiovany Ochoa, and Adrian Roman. Panarisi, The CSULA league standout singled down the left field line, which helped the Sentinels tie the game at four in the bottom of the seventh.

Andres Pasillas started on the bump for The Monarchs. Pasillas surrendered four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Doug Pyle (APU) started the game for the Sentinels.

Pyle gave up six hits and four runs over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking one. Jaden Guzman threw one inning of shutout ball for the Monarchs in relief. The Leo reliever gave up zero hits, striking out none and walking none.

Roman provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Monarchs with two runs batted in. The former PCC first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Monarchs JT Fenton (Chaffey), the number eight hitter, led the Monarchs with two hits in three at bats.

Ben Rutkin (Occidental) and Laureano (Biola) each collected two hits for the Sentinels. Laureano, Andrew Cuervo, and Panarisi each drove in one run for Sentinels 2025. Evan Nahra (Cal Poly Pomona) led the Sentinels with three walks. Although tallying 8 walks and no errors on defense, It wasn’t enough to hold off the hot Monarchs.
